Celebrating Contributions in Surrogacy and Donation: Australian Surrogacy and Donor Awards 2024
Recognising Outstanding Achievements in Australia’s Surrogacy and Donor Community and Industry
The inaugural Australian Surrogacy and Donor Awards 2024, held on 26 October 2024 at REVY — Doltone House in Sydney, celebrated the contributions of individuals and organisations for Australia’s surrogacy and donor communities. This prestigious gala event highlighted the achievements of those making a significant difference in the surrogacy and donation space, fostering a supportive environment for Australian families across the country.
Title sponsors Adri’s Gingerbread (adrisgingerbread.com.au) and Alcatord Management (alcatord.au) played a key role in making the event possible, supporting the achievements of nominees and sharing a commitment to creating a supportive environment for families through surrogacy and donation.
Special guest speaker, Mits Delisle of Rainbow Labor, highlighted the impact of the NSW Equality Bill, marking a historical change by decriminalising overseas commercial surrogacy arrangements for NSW citizens. Delisle spoke passionately about the impact of the reform: “No matter how our families are formed, they are rooted in love and care. And our respective journeys to family-hood have made us stronger and, I think, more empathetic.” He emphasised that “the most powerful and persuasive argument [for the bill] was that reform of parentage laws was, and is, in the best interests of the children.” Delisle praised the community’s contributions, saying, “A key part of our success was being able to share stories—your stories. Your stories and experiences reminded MPs that the debate was deeply personal for those it affected, and that the debate was fundamentally about people, trying to make a family, often against all odds.”
Emma Woodward, co-founder of the awards, highlighted the importance of recognising those who support surrogacy and donation journeys, stating, “Behind each story of surrogacy and donation is a network of supporters—friends, families, professionals—who make the journey possible. The awards are an opportunity to honour those contributions and celebrate the compassion that makes all the difference. Tonight, we pay tribute to the people who have supported and uplifted others in their most important moments.”
The awards celebrated individuals and organisations whose dedication to surrogacy and donation has made a meaningful impact. The 2024 winners include:

Their warmth and humour perfectly complemented the spirit of the inaugural celebration.

This year’s winners have shown an extraordinary commitment to supporting families, making a lasting impact and building connections within the surrogacy and donation community.”

16 September 2024 Celebrating Surrogacy and Donation: Australian Surrogacy and Donor Week 2024
Celebrating Surrogacy and Donation: Australian Surrogacy and Donor Week 2024
A Week to Educate, Inspire and Celebrate Surrogacy and Donation for All Australians
From Monday 21st October to Sunday 27th October 2024, the inaugural Australian Surrogacy and Donor Week will bring together Australia’s surrogacy and donor communities, alongside not-for-profits and businesses, for a week-long celebration of the life-changing impact of surrogacy and donation.
Throughout the week, participants can enjoy free online educational sessions covering surrogacy and egg, sperm and embryo donation. These sessions will feature expert-led webinars on fertility and surrogacy, personal interviews, live Q&A sessions, and an online informal meet. Every evening, there will be storytime for kids, celebrating families created differently. In addition, ‘The Big Picnic’ will bring communities together with in-person picnics hosted across the country, offering a chance to connect and celebrate. The Australian Surrogacy and Donor Awards, a prestigious gala awards night on Saturday 26th October, will recognise and celebrate the achievements of individuals and businesses across surrogacy and donation.
Australian Surrogacy and Donor Week is the brainchild of couple Alex Perchard and Carlo Trovato, along with their surrogate and donor Emma Woodward. Perchard and Trovato started their own surrogacy journey a few years ago, having decided that they wanted to start their family.
“When we began our surrogacy journey, we had no idea where to start,” says Perchard. “Initially, we attended a surrogacy event focused on the US and Canada, which made us feel that surrogacy in Australia would be difficult to navigate. After extensive research, we committed to learning everything about surrogacy in Australia. We attended every event we could find and threw ourselves into a wonderful community of supportive parents, intended parents, donors and surrogates.”
“Through our personal experience and after meeting the incredible surrogacy and donor communities in Australia, we decided to create Australian Surrogacy and Donor Week to celebrate all the great things happening in surrogacy and donation for all Australians, as well as to educate people interested in surrogacy about how to navigate the complex process and to support them through their journey.”
“Our goal is to foster a thriving, supportive community where children born through surrogacy and donation grow up surrounded by others who share similar stories, helping to normalise their unique conception journeys. We invite everyone to join us in Australia’s groundbreaking celebration of surrogacy and donation. Learn more, get involved, and spread the word about Australian Surrogacy and Donor Week,” he continued.
The educational sessions will explore a range of topics, including donor banks in Australia and overseas, how to get started in surrogacy, choosing between domestic and international options, understanding state laws, the science behind creating embryos, costs and financial planning, and more.
Speakers will include experts and industry professionals as well as surrogates, intended parents, donor conceived children, partners and family members.
The Australian Surrogacy and Donor Awards (asdawards.au) will proudly honour the remarkable individuals and businesses excelling in surrogacy and donation. With 15 awards (asdawards.au/awards) in total, the event will shine a spotlight on key contributors, including businesses, fertility clinics, doctors, health professionals, and advocates. Prestigious award categories include Surrogacy Person of the Year, Donation Person of the Year and the Australian Community Person of the Year.
